It’s amazing how much University of San Francisco Museum Studies students and faculty managed to pack into Fall Semester 2014.

Faculty piloted three new courses:

  1. Curatorial Studies Practicum (Kate Lusheck);
  2. Introduction to Archaeology (Elizabeth Pena with the active participation of museum studies graduate student Brianna Jilson) and
  3. Museum Project Management Capstone (Marjorie Schwarzer and Stephanie Brown).

Museum Studies: History and Theory (Paula Birnbaum), Collections Management and Preservation (Paloma Anoveros) and Museums and the Law Practicum (Karren Shorofsky) rounded out a full slate of offerings.

The Museum Studies Graduate Association coordinated and hosted a major public event: Building a new museum on the Washington DC Mall with founding director of the African American Museum of History Lonnie G. Bunch.

Thacher Gallery opened the ground-breaking exhibition, Dobles Vidas, which will be featured in a chapter in the forthcoming volume Innovation Approaches for Museums (ed. Juilee Decker; Rowan and Littlefield, 2015).

And our first cohort of students presented their capstone projects in Xavier Chapel and graduated with their MA degrees.

Of course, we couldn’t have achieved these accomplishments without a lot of help. We offer our abiding gratitude to the following individuals and organizations who helped to make Fall 2014 semester the best yet through their guest lectures, on-site tours and support to our students and faculty that enriched our experience with and knowledge of museum practice.
